Apron Party Winners....

'TIE ONE ON' PARTY REVIEW

Last Sunday Antique Cottage and Garden had the best live music! Retrofit, a classic R&R/Blues band which will open the 8th annual Shasta Blues Festival, played some great tunes for us all, even had some folks up and dancin'!!

We had the most wonderful cake, white chocolate and raspberry, courtesy of our featured artist, Joyce McCarthy, who brought in models wearing some of her most recently-created aprons.

The "Tie One On" afternoon party brought our customers out in all kinds of great aprons, funny, sexy, romantic...an assortment worthy of note!
We had a "silly" apron game, with questions such as What is an apronista? to which winner Sharon Carbaugh replied: "an ape wearing an apron, eating apricots..."
Another notable answer to: Who made the first apron? was given by winner Martha Chandler, who said "The ladies who came over on the Mayflower." Kim Rapin answered "Adam and Eve" and Darla Carrillo answered: "my Mom, Joyce."

The winner for the Most Romantic Apron was Jeri Shaw, in a lovely blue pink and blue floral full apron.

The winner for the Most Fun Apron was Judy Coats
who had a reversible black and red cocktail apron... very fun!

Coco and Renaud's rendezvous

They gazed into each other's eyes for one perfect, beautiful, endless moment… and then he brushed the first tear from her cheek and said: “
Goodbye Coco my love, I will never forget you…”
She took the umbrella he’d opened for her; those tears now masquerading as rain. She clutched her gloves and bag to her chest, as if to hold on to these last minutes and the love they both knew could never be….
As children, Coco and Renaud played together when his father delivered ice for the many grand occasions at her family’s mansion in Paris. Their childhood friendship grew, quietly, steadily and as naturally as seasons turn into years…Until the summer Coco’s betrothal to the heir of another wealthy family was announced. It was then they realized they were in love, but this love was all Renaud had to offer Coco. Though a talented young musician, playing his accordion would never earn him anything more than a meal now and then and the praise of his childhood sweatheart … She knew her heart was his and always would be, but that they could not hope for a future together.
And so they met one last time in a little cafĂ© on the far side of town to say their goodbyes…

Just an imaginary event, but when these items were grouped together, it seemed to set the stage for one of those timeless love stories ... Come enjoy the thousands of items elegantly displayed at the cottage, and let your imagination wander through vintage, antique and ancient, and see what stories they evoke for you...

We have 30 new varieties of plants from Annie's Annuals that just arrived.

This is one of my favorite, Papaver species, "My Big Fat Greek Poppy."

From Annie's Annuals, this Mediterranean rarity, "Cretan Rock Lettuce" is a great container plant in our hot climate that blooms the second year. It needs to be protected from frost in the winter, but it is worth the extra effort.

Another FAB perennial from Annie's Annuals is this native, Ranunculus californicus.

We have 4 inch and 1 gallon sizes available.

We sold the French buffet so our living room is re-arranged and awaiting your visit. Come and enjoy!

It's Spring at the Cottage! Come celebrate with us Saturday, March 20 for a jewelry show, plant sale and wine tasting!

We will be featuring Kalinka Nelson, jewelry designer, and Bruce Miller, award winning wine maker from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

New French Finds at the Cottage

We went South on a couple of shopping trips in January. Now we are having fun refreshing the Cottage and incorporating our newly imported French "finds".

The living room is brighter and more open. The arched shutter over the buffet is the new focal point
and really puts our philosophy to work (using beautiful salvage as decor.)

This is a hard to find vintage metal fly-dome and it goes perfectly with an old silver tray and new apothecary jar.
